Little Blessing

New Baby.

We have a new member to our family. A niece!  She's beautiful. I know, everybody says that about babies but she's a little doll.

Mom and baby are doing well, and I'm receiving cute new pics all the time. They live out of state, so for now, I get to hear the baby's soft cry and Mama's tired voice over the phone.

My joy moment today was feeling blessed to have an adorable new addition to the fam.

I'm looking forward to seeing them both, live and in person, sometime soon.

Welcome, sweet baby girl.

Home Base

Today I had an opportunity to work from home. It was great.

I was still very busy, but even more productive (I know, crazy!)  My favorite part... working in my P.J.'s! Plus, I got a day pass from the grueling L.A. traffic. Yay!

My joy moment today was working from my home base.

Clocking out was pretty awesome, too.  Since, it was just a five second walk from my work station to my couch.

Yeah, baby!  LOL.

MY Tunes

ITunes. MyTunes.

One of my favorite things about my IPhone is how easy it is to add new music.  Love it!

They have an endless collection of songs and they make it very easy to get them. Ofcourse! Those Apple people are no dummies, LOL. I can easily surf through classic oldies and hot newbies and listen to them by just the tap of a finger. I know I sound like a commercial, LOL, but they make it super convenient and super fun.

A few more taps of the finger and I can add an array of music to my phone that spans several different genres, in just a few minutes. Thankfully, many are just 99 cents, so I don't feel so bad for having happy, snappy, tappy fingers. LOL.

My joy moment today was putting on my headphones, sitting back, relaxing and enjoying several of my fav tunes, back to back to back.

Plus I love singing along, although the neighbor's dog seems to have a problem with it. LOL.

Light and Airy Day... sort of!

Seems odd to find glee in basic air conditioning... not when it's 113 degrees outside!

We had record breaking temperatures in California today. It was crazy hot!

There was also another record breaking moment... I wasn't complaining about how cold it was in the office. No whining from me today. Not a peep. LOL.

My joy moment today was enjoying a fabulously air conditioned building that helped me to ride out the scorching heat outside.

The mood was light. The airy was on.

Pretty cool day!

Pepped Up and Ready to Go!

Had a conversation with a friend today who's been stressed out, stuck in a rut and needed a pep talk.

What started out as just a few words of inspiration, turned into a lengthier talk that resulted in a plan of action and resources for her to explore. My friend felt so much better after our chat. I could see the change in her demeanor and it felt good to know that I'd helped.

The weird part?  The talk helped me, too.

Not to sound pompous, but it was a good speech. Just ask my friend! LOL. But seriously, it was moving, insightful, hopeful and on-point. The weird part was how the words just kept pouring out of me... stuff I hadn't shared before and didn't realize I was aware of or thinking about. I found myself sharing lessons, experiences and information that gave my friend perspective and a plan. My friend had several lightbulb moments during it.... and surprisingly, so did I. It made me reflect on my own personal goals that needed action and attention.

As I told my friend, I give all the credit to God. I often ask Him to guide my words and order my steps... and I believe that's what happenend today. He gave me the right words to say to help my friend and at the same time it helped me.  That's just how good He is. :-)

My joy moment today was giving my friend a pep talk that got her out of her funk and energized me, as well.

A two-for-one, pep talk.  He's good! LOL.

Hair-raising Day

Saturday. Salon day.

As the ladies know, Saturday is a very busy day at the hair salon. Very! I usually try and do everything I can, not to make an appointment on this day. Beg, borrow, and beg some more if I have to. But there was no way around it this time. So there I was, sitting for several hours at the salon, on a hot and sunny Saturday. And later, under a hot and steamy hair dryer... good times. Not so much!  LOL.

At least the people watching and conversations were good. Nice music was playing and everyone seemed to be in a pleasant mood while getting their 'do's all dolled-up.

Met a 98-year-old woman with the most beautiful white hair. She was so adorable. Everyone commented on how amazing she looked. Listened to a sweet young woman share her excitment about being pregnant with her first child, as we watched her enjoy, and fill an obviously strong craving for McDonald's Mcnuggets. Three boxes worth! She was such a tiny little thing, it wasn't hard to guess she was eating for two. And, of course, there were the lively stories (and light gossip) from the various hairstylists.

At least it's a fun salon, LOL.

My joy moment today was making the most of my marathon trip to the parlor by engaging in interesting convo's with new and old friends. Plus, after all was said in done, I left with a cute new hairdo.

Okay, so it's not the worst way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon! LOL.

Over the Rainbow

Have you ever seen a double rainbow?

Caught this interesting video on YouTube today. A man, now nicknamed "Double Rainbow guy," has become an internet sensation because of the way he reacted to seeing a rainbow... a "double rainbow,"  to be exact. He gets very excited and is actually moved to tears over it. His reaction is interesting, to say the least, and pretty humorous.

Check it out...

"Double Rainbow Guy-CLICK HERE!"

Many are finding the vid funny but the double rainbow guy is getting the last laugh. Due to his notoriety, he's now doing a television commercial. Guess there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow :-)

My joy moment today was getting a little chuckle out of this video... and a little lesson. Double rainbow guy found joy in the beauty of a rainbow. May we all find joy in the simple and natural beauty of life.

We'd be rich indeed! :-)

Keepin' the Faith!

Faith...

The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. --Hebrews 11:1

Tuning In...

Fall is here... already!

Although, it's a reminder of how fast the year has gone by... it's also show-time! Fall TV line-up. Yay!

If you haven't realized this already, I'm a total TV junkie.  I have to be, I work in the biz. Who am I fooling, I was a born a TV baby.

I remember being up late at night watching TV with my Mom when I was just a wee little girl. The habit stuck. Blame her, LOL.

I love all types of shows...  reality, game show, drama, comedy... I don't discriminate.  So, I'm excited that my fav shows are back. Plus, there are some interesting new debuts that I want to check out. My DVR and I will be working over-time.

Tonight, I caught a usual goodie, NBC's "The Biggest Loser." They've added some great changes and have amazing personal stories, as usual. Watching it inspired me to stop being such a couch potato and get moving.  Perhaps, I'll jog in place while I watch the show... because chowing down while viewing it just feels wrong. LOL. Kidding, people!

My joy moment today was the return of some of my fav shows... and it's just Tuesday. Many more to come this week. I'll try to pace myself.

Signed... bleary eyed but happy.

Lovin' the Tunnel Light

Have you ever worked on something for awhile and couldn't see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel? Okay, that's a tad dramatic. Key word, "tad".

That's been me recently. I've been working on putting together a project for some time now. Been a little crazy. Been a little (lotta) stressful.

I'm used to challenging projects but this one seemed to be taking a little longer and entailed a little more (lotta) extra time.

Then today, all of a sudden, during an impromptu meeting I received some unexpected news.

Interestingly enough, it started out as a run of the mill Monday. I was geared up for a busy day, had set up a game plan and was ready to dig in. Then, shortly after discussing my project in the meeting, praises were given, my project was approved and there was even a little applause at the end. Okay, did that just happen? I thought. Oh yes, it did! LOL. It was that fabulous tunnel light poking through.

It was a good day and what made it extra fab, was that the timing was so unexpected. Yet, right on time!

My joy moment today was finding out all my hard work paid off, big time, and it was much appreciated. That's a good feeling... and it makes pulling all those hairs out of my head a little (lotta) easier to deal with. LOL.

Homemade from my Homey

I had a nice surprise today. Enjoyed a nice brunch prepared by a good friend. So thoughtful!  They did it just because. Because they know I love to eat... they know I love brunch... and they knew I'd get a big kick out it. LOL. My reaction said it all.

The delicious brunch was followed by great conversation, laughs and yep, more food. Such a great way to begin the day.

It makes you feel special when someone does something so thoughtful for you, from the heart... And it's homemade, too?!  Doesn't get any better.

My joy moment today was my wonderful surprise and yummy food prepared by my good friend. Feeling blessed and grateful for their friendship.

You rock, homey! Thanks much!

The Thrill of the Hunt

Part of my job is finding interesting people for various television projects.

Sometimes it's a simple process, but most times, it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Even with all the resources and technology that are available today, it's still a very arduous task.

Luckily, I like the hunt.

Don't get me wrong, it's intense. Very. It involves extensive and creative research, utilizing unique resources, and making new and unusual contacts. All of that, is after I become consumed with the project and a pseudo expert in a very short period of time. It's stressful, to the say the least.

But there's something about enduring all of that craziness and intense searching, and finally finding exactly what I need... that I love!  I enjoy the thrill of the hunt... and when it's an absolute perfect fit, it's like Christmas!

No pain, no gain right?!  LOL.

My joy moment today was my excitement over the great leads I'm finding for my current proeject.  Things are percolating, as I like to say.

I'm on the hunt. I'm getting close. And it feels good!  :-)

No Way!

I'm learning that sometimes it's okay to say, "no."

Yes, it feels better to be agreeable, open, and to go with the flow... but sometimes, "no" is just the better answer.

Do you want another helping?  No, thank you. The first two were fine.

Do you really need to eat the whole pint of ice cream? Nope!

Do you feel like babysitting my pet snake?  Uh, that would be a big no!

Do I look fat in these jeans?  If you want to live... the answer is always, no. LOL.

Just a few random examples for ya... LOL.

Today I said "no" to a couple of things... and felt good about it.

No, I will not go on a hunt for chocolate throughout the office.

No, I will not order lunch when I have a perfectly good, non-tasty, frozen dinner just waiting to be eaten.

No, I will not pretend that exercise is overrated.

Yep, it's okay to say, "no." Especially, when you know you should... even if it's to yourself.

My joy moment today was telling myself, no way!  I've been developing some very bad habits. Time to reel myself in... big time!

It's always good to have a no-nonsense talk with yourself... and as long as you don't answer back, you're good. :-)

A Quote A Day...

What's in a word? Sometimes everything. Especially, when they're strung together to form a great quote that sparks emotion or inspiration.

At times, I find that a few motivating messages, words of wisdom, or fun phrases can give you just the spark, springboard or smile that you may need.

I'm frequently on the hunt for good quotes and love coming across ones with inspiring messages that stay with me. Below are a few favs I wanted to share...

"The best things in life aren't things."

"Never live in the past but always learn from it."

"Challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. It's just a matter of how you view them."

"Don't put a question mark where God put a period."

"Don't wait for people to be friendly, show them how."

"Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere."

"The best way to make your dreams come true is to Wake Up!"

"The only time you run out of chances, is when you stop taking them."

My joy moment today was enjoying some great quotes that started me off in a upbeat and positive mood. Kudos, to the unknown authors!

Hope these quotes do the same for you. I think they will... but don't quote me.  LOL. I couldn't resist!

Remember... "A quote a day, can keep the stress at bay."   That one's from yours truly  :-)

Take care, friends!

"Wake up and Live"-A Snappy Tune to Get You on The Move

Wake up and Live!

Monday mornings... always a little slow getting started from the weekend.

I listened to a little musical diddy today that helped rouse me out of slumber and get me moving and grooving... well, maybe not the grooving part (way too early for Ms. Girl, lol) but the moving part for sure.

The song has the same title as my blog, so I'm a little partial to it. It's an oldie I came across awhile back by a man named, Floyd Dixon. Kind of a jazzy-bluesy little tune with lyrics prodding us to Wake Up and Live... 'cause we're not here forever!

Of course, when Mr. Dixon belts it out it sounds much better than that, LOL.

Here's a little sample from Pandora radio. Click on the following link and play the sample for #11.

My joy moment today was listening to a jazzy tune that put some pep in my step and a little glide in my stride.

SALT... and not the kind for seasoning!

Today I saw the movie, "Salt" with Angelina Jolie. I love watching an action movie with a tough, driven, butt-kicking female lead. Jolie plays all that and more as CIA agent, Evelyn Salt. Don't worry, no spoilers here! I'll let you see it for yourself, if you're interested.

All I will say is, Jolie's character, Salt, is like Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible" or Jason Bourne in "Bourne Identity". Her amazing, unbelievable, eye-popping stunts will keep you glued and guessing what she'll do next. Most of it is wild, to say the least. FYI... the movie has some violent scenes, so be warned, if you dare.

But if you're up for a fast-paced action movie with a cool female lead, kicking major tushy, then check out, "Salt".

I know one thing, the ladies loved it! LOL. As I confirmed, chatting with several strangers in the powder room who'd also just viewed the movie. They (we) were all hyped-up and excited, recanting some of Jolie's wild scenes and stunts. You see guys... us ladies do enjoy more than just chick flicks! LOL. Sometimes :-)

My joy moment today was enjoying a good movie, starring one bad mamasita!

Go, Girl Power!  LOL.

A New Day!

The beginning of a new day brings about a chance for new paths, new adventures, even a do-over, if we wish.

Yesterday is over and tomorrow's not here yet. But today, the present, is an opportunity to begin anew, a fresh start.

Each new day really is a "present"...  a gift for us to unravel, explore, investigate, appreciate, admire... whatever we want it to be. And the wonderful part, we get a new opportunity every 24 hours to make it our own.

Is there anything you've putting off or wanting to try? Someone you've been meaning to call or see? Something you've been wanting to do or plan? No time like the present! It's a brand new day...  go for it!

Whether it's simple, silly or sublime. Do something that will make you or someone you love, smile... today.

My joy moment today was appreciating the gift that a new day brings... I'm grateful for it!

Blessings to all, today and always.

Reality Check

One of my fav, guilty pleasure programs is coming to the end of the season. The reality game show,"Big Brother" (Okay, don't judge, lol.)

Only one episode is left until the grand finale. I've been hooked this season, by many of the crazy and comical characters on the show. Even when it's a train wreck, I can't look away.  LOL.

It started almost three months ago, with 13 people living together in a house, secluded from the outside world. Now, only three people are left, each intent on exiting with the half -a-million dollar prize.

The final hurdle... evicted house-guests will cast their votes, for the last two people standing, determining the ultimate winner. Until then, crazy game play and creative conniving will continue... big time!

I know, I know. I did say it was my guilty pleasure.  I'm guilty, already! LOL.

My joy moment today was laughing out loud, at the hilarious one-liners and antics of the remaining house-guests. Such a great stress reliever!  Just what I needed. :-)

The Lunch Belles

Is it wrong to find joy and happiness in food? How about just it's very arrival? LOL

Perhaps, it's a habit I'm developing from my co-workers. I call them the lunch ladies. These gals are incredibly on-time and on-schedule when it comes to lunch. Before I got on board with the lunch ladies, I was in the bad habit of eating very late... and every now and then, not at all. I know, crazy!  Food is fuel, for heaven's sake.

But not anymore... I'm with the gals!

Lunch is brought up and discussed early. Email suggestions are sent out to everyone... Orders are put in promptly... and food consumption is usually around the same time each day. I'm now a happy follower of this well-orchestrated routine.

And when the order arrives... it's "happy time" at the office!  It's funny, how excited everyone gets when the food appears. I'm not sure if it's happiness or hunger that's bringing about the cheers (and drools), but whatever it is... I'm in. LOL!

Then there's the social factor. Lunch is the time when we all stop down, catch up and engage in a lively chat-fest. It's definitely an event... and I make sure to get a front row seat.
,
My joy moment today was answering the lunch time bell and chowing down with my work peeps! Always a fun (and delicious) treat, and just the mid-afternoon jolt I needed to get me through the rest of the day.

I love the lunch ladies!

And we're off!  Sluggish, "Monday-like" start-up. Morning commute had crazy, "Monday-like" traffic. Received "Monday-like" emails, voice-mails and calls.

But, alas, it was TUESDAY!  No Monday blues over here!

It was Terrific, Tantalizing, and Totally Awesome (just 'cause it was) Tuesday!  Already!

My joy moments today occurred everytime I remembered we were already two days into the week. Tuesday was up and hump day was just over the horizon.

"Labor" of Love

Instead of taking a weekend getaway, as planned, I actually stayed home for my "staycation". Not so bad, I managed to get in a few activities and a little rest, too.

Today I took part in some "shopping labor." I haven't had any retail action for awhile. I've been very good. Darn Labor Day sales! Every-time I try and get out, they pull me back in, LOL.

Red tags everywhere. Prices slashed. Sale signs at every turn. What's Ms. Girl to do? I can only resist so much temptation. Have to admit, it wasn't a bad way to wrap up a three day weekend. :-)

Whistle Blowing Time!

Hard day. Exhausting. Feels like I didn't take a breath all day. Tired, pooped and feening for a much needed joy moment. Don't get me wrong, work is cool and I'm happy to have it, but it was just one of those days....

Didn't leave the office at all today. Only daylight I saw was in the a.m. on the way to the office.

No real lunch break. I don't even remember eating. Only reason I know that I did, is because I can see the tattered remains of the discarded carton. :-)

Lot of solitary work today, not much human interaction. Although, I made up for it, chatting it up during a ton of phone conversations.

Yep, it was one of those busy, crazy days. At least, it was productive... better be, right?! LOL.

My joy moment today is happening right now! Work done. Day over. Time to pack up and head home.

Oh, yeah! It's whistle blowing time. (Insert big smile here, LOL)

Accentuate The Positive

A friend and I were talking about ways to de-stress when life stuff gets hectic or annoying.

One of the things I do when it gets particularly crazy, is to put everything in perspective by reminding myself of the good things in my life. I try to shake off the negatives by reeling off a list of the positives.

Like...

Good health
Good friends
Family
A job
All my senses in working order (especially, my sense of taste)
Clothes on my back
Roof over my head
A place to lay my noggin
Chocolate hidden in my desk

No matter how simple... taking stock of the good, can help combat the bad. More often than not, I find that it leaves me a little calmer and a lotta grateful.

P.S., my friend agreed that his way, banging the desk, didn't help as much, LOL.

My joy moment today was accentuating and appreciating the positive. Always a good thing!
